#ThankfulThursday- Be Kind

Acts of kindness can brighten up the darkest of days and leave a lasting impression on the receiver.

It is important to be kind because you will meet and interact with people who are different from you. It is also important to be kind because it will make you feel good about yourself.

Kindness can reduce stress; when you are being kind to others you are focusing less on yourself and more on others, which will help to reduce your stress factor.

Here are a few way to spread kindness on this #thankfulThursday;

  • Use kind words when you speak
  • Spread the kindness you have received
  • Practice kindness
  • Be kind to all, not just a selected few
  • Be mindful of how you treat others/ try not to discriminate
  • Set a good example of kindness
  • Smile and acknowledge others
  • Be courteous and polite

On this day I am thankful for the small acts of kindness I received this morning during a a very stressful commute.

The Importance of Determination

Determination is the firmness of purpose and resoluteness. It is the sense of making up ones mind about achieving something.

Why is determination important?

With determination we increase our chance of being successful in a particular thing or with a particular goal; it helps us to stay motivated as we continue striving towards that particular goal.

How do we show determination?

Being Committed- Having a well thought out plan that creates the best path to achieving your goals. Once you have the plan in place do not deviate from it to give yourself the best chance for success.

Be deliberate in our actions- Never leave anything down to luck. Use your circumstance to guide and fuel your intention; don't just choose the easiest path or allow for helplessness.

Limit your choices- Don’t get caught up with having too much choices, because they will become distractions and detractors from your goal.

Have personal values- Personal values give you the purpose to stay true to your goals no matter how hard or improbable attaining then may seem.

Encourage yourself- Self Affirmations can help you to have more willpower, develop self-control and therefore be able to stay determined to achieving your goals.

To achieve your goals you need determination and willpower which are both intrinsic motivation.

Count Your Blessings!

Counting one's blessing is to be grateful for what one has.

Do you have blessings?

This is a very important question we have ask ourselves. I don't know about you but sometimes I forget to be grateful for my blessings.

What are the good things in your life right now that you are truly thankful for?
Are you seeking to see goods things in your daily life?

Because we get so caught up in our daily lives that we forget to see the good that is all around us. Changing ones perspective can change our circumstance. Don't wait for perfection, actively seek to find the good in every situation. I might not be easy but if we make the decision now to do so, we will remain confident about the goodness around us.

Moreover, what is more contagious than a thankful heart?

Valentine’s Day

Every February 14th, across the United States and many countries in the world, candy, flowers, love notes, and gifts are exchanges between loved ones all in the name of St. Valentine. But where did this tradition come from?

The Legend

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus. However one legend contends that Valentine was a priest who serves during the third century in Rome. He is said to have defied Emperor Claudius II who decreed that single men made better solider, and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. According to another legend; imprisoned Valentine sent the first “valentine” after he fell in love with his jailer's daughter. It is alleged that he wrote her a letter and signed it “From your Valentine”.

Origins of the Day

Valentine’s feast day in the middle of February was an effort to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia, which was celebrated at the ides of February. Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman God of agriculture. It became the day of romance when Lupercalia was outlawed and deemed “un-Christian” at the end of the fifth century and Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day. During the Middle Ages in France and England February 14 was believed to be the beginning of mating season for birds, which added to the idea that Valentine’s Day should be a day of romance.

My Feeling on Valentine’s Day

While I like Valentine’s Day and the romance it offers.  I don’t just want romantic gestures to be like Christmas that only comes one per year.  I like flowers, chocolate, perfume, jewelry etc. all year round.  I believe it while it is sweet that a day is dedicated to love, it leaves a lot of people feeling lonely and sad. Valentine’s Day has become a day for retailers and represents the opportunity for more sales.

In my opinion, the best thing you can do is find someone who loves your for exactly what you are; good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what you have.

Valentine’s Day reminds us to reaffirm our love, or perhaps to give a voice to our love.

7 Ways to be more Positive

"Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny." - Lao Tzu

" A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."- Winston Churchill

" We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anais Nin

Too often to speak to ourselves in a negative way without even realizing that we are doing so.  This negative way we approach life will and do taint our outlook and becomes self-fulfilling prophecy.  The law of attraction say our positive or negative thoughts brings positive or negative experiences.

So how can we infuse positivity in our thoughts/lives, and therefore have positive experiences?

Here are six ways you can make a impact on your approach to life and create more positive outcomes.

Practice Gratitude- One way to shift your thoughts from the negativity, judgmental and disappointed thoughts is to be grateful. Practicing gratefulness will shift your thoughts from the glass half empty mentality to the glass half full view point. Keeping our blessing and wins at the forefront of our mind will shift our perspective and allow us to experience the joys of life.

Smile- Another way to trick you body and mind is to keep smiling.  Have you ever smiled at a strange and they smiled back? How did that make you feel? Even if you don't necessarily have something to smile about having a smile on your face goes a long way to fostering a positive attitude.

Be Kind- It is so easy to get catch-up in our own misery and forget about the people interact with each day. When we give of ourselves to help others  it can provide so much joy and in-turn add positivity to our lives.

Surround yourself with positive people- Do not surround yourself with people who has the crab in a barrel mentality. It is hard to maintain a positive attitude if you are constantly surrounded by negative attitudes. Instead surround yourself with people who will push you to be a better version of yourself.

Find the positive in a negative situation- Changing your view point can go a long way to improving your attitude. When you find yourself in a negative situation, try asking yourself what is good/positive in this situation? What can I learn from this situation? Try to have optimistic thoughts to help have a positive viewpoint.

Learn to take criticism in a positive way- The fear of criticism has held a lot of people back in life. The reason being, is that criticism is often negative and it hurts. However, criticism is not avoidable, therefore you have to seek to handle it in a positive way.  Such as really listening to the criticism, remember it isn't always about you, and taking deep breaths.

Make a positive attitude a choice-  In every person and every situation there is something positive. It might not be easy to find or see, however we have to look.  Going out in the world each day with a positive attitude will make it easier to see the god in people and situation. Having positive thoughts and behavior will you inspire to share your positivity with the world. It might not come easy but practice makes perfect.

Chronological vs Biological Age

Chronological age refers to the amount of time a person has being alive, this does not change no matter how healthy our lifestyle.  Biological age is measure of how well or poorly your body is functioning in comparison to your actual age.
How well we age is dependent on a number of factors including genetics. The main factors that can slow or speed up our biological age are lifestyle, genetics, and location.

Lifestyle

Having healthy habits can significantly impact your biological age. These can include,

  •          Exercise Habits
  •          Eating habits
  •          Stress levels
  •          Amount of sleep
  •          Relationships

Genetics

We did not get to choose our gene pool therefore hereditary diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure can be a significant contributor to your biological age. Genetics also play a factor in the rate we age, while some people age rapidly others will age at a slower rate or a more gradual rate.  That’s the reason you can meet two persons who are 40 and one will seem much older.

Location

Where we live plays an influential role on our biological age. The environment and culture you live in will impact your healthy habits.  Communities that have the resources will have access to healthier food options and tends to have less stress.

Biological age is measure using resting heart rate, blood pressure, visual perception, easy of doing daily task, muscle strength and general mobility. This means your biological age can be higher than your chronological age. If this is the case, it would simple means it would be the opportune time to make positive lifestyle changes.

Having a low biological age goes hand in hand with longevity, so incorporating healthy habits such as daily exercise, eating healthy, getting enough sleep and reducing you stress level can add years to your life.

#ThankfulThursday - Happiness

The Key to Happiness is letting each situation be what it is instead of what you think it should be.

Words Synonymous with happiness  are contentment, satisfactions, joy, high spirit, merriment, gladness, pleasure.

Happiness is dependent on us, not on others. Therefore happiness will mean different things to each of us.  On this Thursday choose your own happiness and be thankful for it.

“Happiness is the art of never holding in your mind the memory of any unpleasant thing that has passed.”
Unknown

“To be happy, we must not be too concerned with others.”
Albert Camus

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”

#Motivation- Be Skeptical

To be Skeptical one needs to be questioning, not easily convinced and having reservations.

Skepticism is the practice of freedom; the more we question things the less we will worry about them. The world is full of ideas and notions that are cluttering our mental space, so by questioning there relevance in our lives and can give the ones worthy of our attention, the attention they deserves.

Some would say that being a skeptic can get a little old, but isn’t it better to think for yourself instead of blindly believing? Our belief can be a bias to be a new idea or concept, but once we remove that bias we can objectively take in information that can alter or change a concept.

Most people view skepticism in a negative light, but a skeptic isn’t necessary a doubtful person, but is a person who seeks to understand the world for themselves.

Paleo Diet Vs Keto Diet

I’m always looking for new and innovate ways to incorporate new foods and menus into my daily life.  I am a person who gets bored eating the same foods the same way every single day, so new foods, spices and ways to prepare foods makes me excited.

While I’m not a person who diets the Paleo and Keto diets is so popular that it has grabbed my attention. Both has there pros and cons and you will find people arguing for either. I personally do not think one is better that the other, but it comes down to what you are trying to achieve.

                                                                                             Paleo

The Paleolithic diet is also known as Stone Age diet, hunter gatherer diet and caveman diet. The aim of the Paleo diet is to eat more like early human ate. The reasoning is that the human body is genetically mismatched with the modern diet and farming practices, leaving the body in discordance.
The advent of modern farming changed how people ate and the body is not able to adapt to the rapid change. Our main food source in the modern era includes dairy, grains and legumes which aren’t in the prehistoric diet.

The Paleo diet limits those foods and seeks to only eat what could only be obtained by hunting and gathering.  It typical includes lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nut and seeds.

These foods are considered healthy and are generally easily accessible in comparison with wild games and grass feed animals. One of the major drawbacks of the Paleo diet is that is expensive to maintain.

                                                                              Keto

The Ketogenic diet is a low carb, high fat diet that offers many health benefits. It involves drastically reducing your carb intake and replacing it with fat.
